Everyone has their favorite year for gaming and mine is 1994. Considering this is the 30th year anniversary of that year I figured it was worth a dedicated thread. I have a lot of bias for personal reasons so I tried to keep it as objective here as possible. I'm Nintendoid who grew up in the US but that'll be pretty obvious in my list. Anyway, consider:

>16-bit hit it's apex here with the war between the SNES and Genesis finally turning in favor of the SNES. The Sega vs. Nintendo War of the early 90s is one of the more captivating narratives in gaming. It was the last year of 16-bit dominance which gives it all an end of an era feel.
>Speaking of the SNES, it really showed what it could do this year with Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, a super MK II port and of course, DKC. This was the year the most SNES games were released and there were tons of great B-titles as well. As a kid who rented most of his games, this was exciting as it seemed like each week there was something new worth renting.
>The Genesis was no slouch either with some great sequels like Sonic & Knuckles, Shining Force 2, and Streets of Rage 3. A lot of people would consider Contra Hard Corps and Castlevania Bloodlines better than their SNES counterparts. This was really the height of Sega's cultural power in the US and it would all come crashing down the year after.
>There were nearly a dozen systems competing for the piece of the pie. 3D0, Jag, Sega CD, CD-i, Neo Geo, the handhelds...even the NES was just barely hanging on.
>Arcades, while not at their peak were still popular and the standard as to which console games were judged.
>Doom becomes a phenomenon showing that PCs could do action just as well, if not better than consoles
>The Saturn, Playstation and Nintendo's mysterious "Project Reality" all loomed on the horizon. Big things were happening and it was exciting.
>Magazines probably peaked here as well - one EGM at the end of the year ballooned up to 400 pages.

I'll start with the Super Mario RPG commercial for how the grandpa tells the story
https://youtu.be/MtVHB18KMC8

the Wario Land 4 commercial for all the greed going on during the holidays by the shoppers and the guy on the announcer
https://youtu.be/tNSwIRnBgXw

and the Japanese commercials for "F-Zero Maximum Velocity" & "Super Mario Advance" for the song that plays in the background that I really wish I could listen to the whole thing

https://youtu.be/TV08PMbS5r4

also,I'm currently looking for the original USA commercial for the game "Earthbound" cause I've always wanted to see how they'd do the game's "This Game Stinks" marketing in commercial form during the "Play it Loud" era of Nintendo's marketing in the USA, if anyone knows where it is, let me know, okay, thanks
