What's the honest consensus on custom status bars in vanilla megawads (both normal and DM, but specifically DM for my case)? Are they welcomed or viewed as obnoxious?

Personally I'm open to the idea of it provided they look good and don't change Doomguy's face to some fat guy (See Greenwar 2) and the numbers and background are legible and clean. What does everyone else think? Should I have a (pic related) custom sbar and menu colors in my megawad or is it unnecessary and feature-creep?
