I don't necessarily agree. Also, a healthy balance of spacious rooms mixed with obstacle-busy ones is perfect imo. Generally, you want to avoid western platformers, as for some reason the west wasn't capable of producing many great ones, bat a few exceptions. At least during retro times.
Same with ones with fixed screens actually, classics like Donkey Kong are japanese, but when you look at the west side of things you get... shit like speccy games.
