Looking at the great final bosses thread got me thinking about how many awesome games from my childhood - many of my favorite games, even - have kind of disappointing final battles. I'm sure there's usually a legitimate reason. For instance, there's not much you can do with an enemy in the Doom engine besides make it stand taller, hit harder, and take more hits to kill, so as long as you have a BFG and some cells (and I can't think of any reason you wouldn't, if you're not intentionally pistol starting to be a hardass), pic related goes down in like five seconds flat, and that's probably why they made the final battle in Doom 2 more about managing a never-ending shitstorm of multiple enemies while trying to complete a task that leaves you in the open.
