The only reason manchildren on this board hate emulation is because it undercuts their shitty little retro game cottage industry.

No one's going to pay some 800 pound slob $300 for Super Mario bros when they can emulate it for free.

Super Mario Brothers. Hell, most of the sequels straight up start off with what Mario and Co. were doing right after the previous game ended. For Mario and Luigi to have the reputation and relationship with Princess Peach (and by extension the Mushroom Kingdom, Dinosaur Land, etcetera) the games must have a continuous, or damn near continuous, canon setting.

World! 3!
No and no.
This is the real deal
Put 2 (Japan) and related romhacks if the base game is too easy

I don't think Beethoven is an overrated hack. No, SMB will not be a 'must play' for future generations, but it doesn't need to be. People just need to be aware of it, or even to have just heard of it for it to still be culturally relevant.
I picked the SMB theme song because it is literally the Coca Cola equivalent for video game music. It is known almost worldwide, recognized by more people than have even played the game, and has been played on just about every instrument and various non-instruments that ever existed. Can the same be said for Beethoven's works? Mozart's? Bach's? I say this not to belittle their works, because they are as great as you have said they are. But why are you discounting SMB's theme as a great work of "our" time? Of course we cannot know what the future will hold, but my bet is on the SMB theme being held up there against the other great works of musical art.

>Mario Bros is "an old game", and no one consider the games as a source of inspiration nowdays.

I would also take issue with this. SMB is actually a great example for video game level design and is still used as a beautiful, and one of the best, examples for how to teach game play mechanics trough play rather than instruction or tutorial. See:

PLEASE HELP
I have an NES that was missing the dust cover door, so I bought a door, took the console apart and replaced the door. I also blew out some of the dust that was in the console, and carefully cleaned the inside with alcohol. I just put the console back together and decided to test it out with Super Mario Bros because that's the game I'm most familiar with. Now the controls have a slight delay, and the momentum feels wrong. I tested the game on another NES that I own, and it works fine.

I know I'm not imagining things because I speedrun this game. If something feels wrong, I'll know. Something definitely feels wrong. Help?

>inb4 "just use your other NES"
That one has its own problems. It doesn't read games as well as the one that I opened up, and it's hard to get the cartridges out.

I'm gonna say he's thinking of the original japanese or european covers; this one doesn't qualify as myth, it's just harsh reality

Have you ever beaten the NES version of Super Mario Bros. in one sitting with no warp zones or save states? I'm talking from start to finish in one go, every single level.

When I think about it, this game actually kind of does suck. For a platformer, it has no replay value. Period.

>99% linear with no side quests to speak of
>No alternate party members
>No party organization to give certain characters priority over others
>No unique equipment builds that reward smarter thinking, not harder thinking
>No alternate endings

Yes yes yes, I know, it has a great aesthetic and soundtrack, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still a weak platformer.

You're not a real gamer unless you get all the 1-ups in a single run

It sucks that I've almost totally lost interest in playing this. I've memorized all the levels, and since they're always the same (same enemy movements even) it's just going through the motions....I guess it's good for boredom, the repetition, but it's kind of sad that I've gotten to know the game too well.

Any similar experiences? What games do you know so well they've become boring to play?

I think this is the best Super Mario. It's the most fast-paced. You can mostly hold down the dash button the entire time, except when you have to be very precise. And it's so fun to avoid obstacles, jump on blocks, etc.

The other guys always felt kind of slow to me. Mario 3 is a close-second, but it just has too many slow segments, where you kind of have to wait before moving on. Moving platforms, a good amount of auto-scrolling levels, including the really boring airships

Mario World is still fun but even worse in this regard. It kind of feels like, with half the levels you have to wait for something; a moving platform in lava, the level to scroll, etc.

Thoughts? What is your favorite Super Mario and why? And what do you think about Mario and the pace of its levels? Is it important to you?

Holy shit this game is hard. I'm trying to beat it and I'm unable to do it.

/vr/, have you cleared Super Mario Bros. before?
