I was born in 1988, I have half-siblings 15 years older than me, there was an Atari in the house when I was a child, it was the first video game I ever played. It's really not hard to understand. Also the 2600 had plenty of releases (software and even hardware) after 83.

This is exactly correct

You got Radar Lock in there so I'm on board. I'd probably add Fatal Run or KLAX.

It depends entirely on what kinds of games you like to play. If you like arcade style, score attack stuff with simple loops, then yes. Think of 2600 "ports" of arcade games as unique entities; some are great, some bad. The unique titles range from phenomenal to the worst shit you've ever played. No other console has that kind of range. You're literally just blasting electrons at a screen and you have a joystick to do it with. If that sounds appealing, the 2600 kicks ass.

It's quite good too, but I prefer the 2600 version mechanically

Oh perfect, it will look great on a CRT, pic not related. The way it draws its video was designed from the ground up based on an electron gun. If you enjoy the games and the Atari, I recommend reading "Racing the Beam", you can find a copy online, it's the best book about the system and a pretty quick read.

I found my (much) older siblings' Atari 2600 in a drawer and my brother helped me hook it up when he came home from college. Centipede was the first video game I ever played, probably around 91-92.

2600 Centipede was the first game I ever played, for whatever reason I never really get tired of it. I don't really care for any other versions of the game either.

>Centipede
>Atari 2600
>Best version of the game, infinitely playable
>I was born in 88 but my parents wouldn't buy me games as a younger kid, found my older half siblings' Atari in a drawer, older bro showed me how to hook it up. I've been a /vr/ trooper ever since.

Lucky, I have dry eyes and contacts made me want to die, but good lord glasses are the worst. It's been like, 10+ years for me now.

I was born in '88, but my first console was my older brother's 4-switch 2600. Centipede was my first game and I still love playing Atari. As you said, the 2600 was on store shelves until 1992; there's 15 years of machines floating around the US, not to mention the billions of carts. I'm sure tons of kids had one in their house growing up long after its demise. The things hardly ever break either, which helps.

I'm 28. I was one of those weird kids who just had their older siblings Atari until I was able to buy a Game Boy and Pokemon with lawn-mowing money
