I suppose you're right that there is no winning timeline in catering to the entry or low-end side with the thin margins. It's just that the focus on the high-end to enthusiast leaves a lot out to dry unable to enjoy PC gaming. I was considering trying out DifferentSLI Auto to make two 750ti cards in making an amazing small form factor low power consumption retro XP time machine. While I don't expect double 750ti, I hope it could still maybe be suitable for the games of the time, but the issue is having the airflow for the two low-profile cards next to each other.

I think it is because it was more experimental where we did not know how to make coolers so they were all sorts of shapes/sizes and they used to plaster 3D rendered ladies on the graphics cards. I still want to get the ATi cards with peak Ruby before she hit the wall around the early 2000s, like the Radeon X1950. Here are Sapphire's own vampire mascot, which who knows what that's about. As you stated, you have no use for it, and keep in mind the headaches of needing to replace capacitors. Without access to expertise, it is a minefield of costs and the people who can do such repairs are just getting older and eventually die leaving the retro outdated technology to fade away. It is my punishment for keeping these things from their heyday; hope that convinces you about the cons to a time machine.

Most the parts that would work in the time machines are above 7nm which China could provide at a low price. I'm not looking to do any AI work, and I couldn't afford quality parts designed by better engineers. It is shameful to use poverty AMD and Chinese parts, but inflation has been kicking me in the butt.

I would prefer something better than XP home so it could utilize more than 3.6GB of RAM that those mobos utilize, but MS no longer offers the editions I want anymore. I figure the quad-channel should help in bandwidth. If I could get a XP Pro license without calling some MS service center to activate, maybe these could be utilized.

There was a time when ATi adorned their cards with peak Ruby and that was a nice shroud. I think Sapphire here has their own character. As for the Chinese graphics, that just doesn't have good looking performance but it is meant for low profile and low power draw only from the PCI-E slot.

Very nice. I know Sega also has their own arcade setups which are low powered x86/64 arecade hardware as well. I did get a DE10 nano and got the analog out project board for Mister to output to a CRT.

Intel is ideal, but I have to stick with poverty AMD options. You should have more flexibility and performance. Whoever gifted you the board is a saint.

So I got an old monitor that only does 240p or 480i, but not 480p. Worse yet, it is only 15kHz, unlike the usual 31kHz old PC monitors expect. To accommodate for the monitor, I got one of those ArcadeVGA graphics cards so I can send MAME to the monitor. Problem is that I got the old AGP version, and will have to save up to get the newer PCIe ones. What is the most powerful processor/mobo combo that has AGP which could do a lot of MAME games in 240p? What is the latest/best version of MAME for pairing with the setup?

Not quite. The cables, case, power supply, accessories, and monitor are still needed. There is so little support for Windows 2003, which is a lot like XP, but no one has any drivers for it.

I like the XP era stuff since I think it was a system with a pretty wide array of hardware and software that is supported.

Well that one was for Sever 2003 which is a lot like XP. I have not used that yet, so it will be a fun experiment. I am still trying to read up on how to align it with the NVMe, but there's so little to read about 2003. This here I think I will try regular 32-bit XP pro, but I am way further behind on this one.

>>7859757
I never left. I drop in every now and then, but the board has gotten a lot faster such that I am unable to respond when threads die.

I just remember having an Adaptec SCSI 29160 card, with two flat cables, one 50-pin and one 68-pin, connecting to a CD-ROM drive, CD-RW drive, and the aforementioned 10000RPM HDD back then. Adding an IDE DVD drive in that setup to the mid-tower cases of the day which had power supplies at the top rear did affect the airflow. That's why I intend on settling for modern SSDs connected to a SATA to IDE adapters for the storage solutions to these retro builds. Leaving as few cables as possible (1 optical drive and one SSD) and settling for the maximum limit of IDE should be good enough.

>>7824780
I think it will run out of resources if all the cards were installed. Besides, the left motherboard has only one ISA slot. Probably best to pick one to avoid driver issues or something.

>>7825375
Oh they are just plans for the hardware I kept. The Athlon boards I do have (the purple ECS and this one) lack the ISA slot.

>>7835321
It was just the system I had back then. The only issue I foresee with using a SSD solution to these time machine builds is aligning the old OS to the SSD. Another stumbling block I am thinking maybe that 128GB total storage limit of Windows 98SE allows, which I'm considering a 120GB SSD, but I should probably not partition the whole thing for garbage collection, so what size would be best to accommodate?

It may be what is inside which matters more than the case. I remember 98 may struggle with RAM over 512MB and may be limited to 1GB after some unofficial hackery.

With all the PCI-E slots and just 1 PCI slot, consider a Live! or Audigy for that singular regular PCI slot. In addition to the video >>7473053 posted for your processor, this video may help out for potential video cards to use in your PCI-E expansion slots: https://youtu.be/abYeIixYrbk

However, with that system, it may be best to go with DOSbox for the DOS games.

For me, it was with AMD/ATI for the WinXP days. It is the poverty combination that I am most familiar using since Intel/nVidia was and continues to be the luxury performance Linux route. It may take a couple more years, but I hope to save up enough to complete this time machine.

It is an ATI x1950 graphics card for that Windows2k set I had. At that time, I had to settle for AMD and ATI because they were the only affordable options when you were broke. They don't match up to Intel and nVidia, but I was aiming for Windows 2000 and not a GNU/Linux elitist with the best hardware. I would have wanted one with Ruby on it, but I don't think they put her on any AGP cards, but the Palit one has a nice robust cooling solution but takes up 2 slots. At that point, AGP was being phased out, but I think the red goes well with the purple and black PCBs.
