Considering player positioning is an important aspect of the game, I think mixing 2D & 3D would probably just be more difficult, especially in regards to hitboxes. If you go full 3D then you might as well not use Doom and get something modern for the job.

Sprites + models I'd think would 'work' if you're making something that's more heavily inspired than some kind of recreation.

What kind of irritates me with the reloads is that the secondary fire generally consumes like 80% of ammo in your magazine, so if you expend half of it with the primary you'll have to force a reload to use the secondary, and then after firing that you're left with little ammo. It's manageable, especially since magazine upgrades appear to be a thing, but it would be better if it ran on a separate magazine or ammo pool, which in turn would allows for more kinds of items built around it.

Considering the game plays almost nothing like a retro FPS, the marketing is misleading as fuck. It's ace, especially with Romero and CliffyB playing along with the 1996 joke, but would've been much better suited for another game.
