If it's what I'm thinking about, then that really pissed me off as well and I'd definitely say it's an issue with the translation. It pissed me off enough that I've never once for a moment forgotten that word and burned its every meaning into my brain.
Search for the shoal in the Western sea? When I played the GBC version of DQ3 as a kid, I had no fucking idea what a shoal even was. And I couldn't find a damn thing in the sea area on the west of the world map, so it led to me sailing in circles grinding to a ridiculous level until I finally just gave up and started using the fucking vase in front of absolutely anything that looked even remotely out-of-place. Not gonna lie, it ended up taking me over a month to finally find where it actually was. I wasn't exactly the brightest kid.
