You should all be glad that NiCad batteries are no longer used, if you are a retro collector and have boards with NiCads on, immediately snip them off and replace, when they leak it will eat the board until and unfixable state.
Check the top corner of this PCB, this isn't even the worst I've had to deal with. Capacitors bursting are far less of a hassle than this, they just spew out cotton wadding.

I'm a 36 year old ex-collector that dumped all the rare shit in MAME, here is my Amstrad Mega-PC motherboard with extensive NiCad leak damage, I'm speaking directly from real world experience.
