Get good

Learn which spots and position won't knock you down a pit if you get hit.

Learn to crouch. Getting hit while crouching won't knock you back, unless you attack at the same time.

Playing aggressively during the first phase doesn't pay because Dracula's spawn points are completely random. So either way, whether you move or don't, you have the same ammount of chance of him spawning next to you but if moving that has the added effect of finding yourself in a more dangerous situation.

With that said, that is the whole point of the fight, it's an endurance/patience test, in which if you know what you're doing you very likely will never get hit, but if you're a clueless impatient ADHD ridden kid, you're gonna get fucked and keep dying from a single hit. It rewards discipline, and there are still many things to learn to "get good" during that first phase even if you stay put.
