ITT: retro games that features a first citizen class world, maybe because it changes with time or because it encourages to revisit different parts of the world.

As pointed out, Zeldas love this alternate world stuff; the Oracle games is where they really go to town with it though

Hello.

What are some games with same/similar combat to games like Link's Awakening or Oracle of Seasons?

Basically 8 directional movement, 4 directional attack (& the way player is facing).
Played a FF adventure game with similar style back when I was a kid.
Played Hammerwatch recently, though that's not so quite similar.

And I don't just mean in the sense of detailed to the point of looking like a painting, but also the artistic choices and stylistic flow. Oracle of Seasons for GBC doesn't look that great, but I love the contrast of the seasons while I'm playing it.
