What monitor is that? Is that a flat screen, or just some illusion caused by the angle/lens curvature/a large tube diagonal?

100% agreed. My only problem with my BT-H1390YN is that it doesn't do 480p, but thankfully my Commodore 1942 does and has the same dot pitch (same tube manufacturer and mask).

Looks to be a 20 inch PVM judging by the way-too-thin-when-up-close raster scan lines. These monitors really look better at a distance, at least for 240p, but people love close-ups.

Get the 1702 for s-video if that's important to you (i.e. if you plan on playing sega systems).
Composite on the SNES and NES isn't half bad, so you might be better served by the trinitron, otherwise. Commodore is not known for reliability (yeah I know that other companies made these and just commodore branded them).
