Good story OP. Mega man definitely has some developed lore. Their stories are pretty simple but the lore is plentiful. Maybe not tear worthy but something about the series definitely has a ominous and kinda depressing vibe. This interview from Akira Kitamura explains it pretty good.

I remember reading that in Z1 copy X was originally meant to be actual X but that it wad dropped because they felt fans would be outraged.

I want to believe somewhere, somehow the original Rock is still out there. I don't know where but he's somewhere. He's just sleeping, like Zero and X were.

The only X game you absolutely need to play is X1, look into the others and see if your interested. The series has quality issues.

I myself like legends and feel they're pretty good games but I could understand someone not liking them.
