I intend to celebrate by playing the best 5th generation action adventure game.

I often hear people saying that the PS1 has a ton of great 2D games, but when asked what games, they always list the same stuff like Castlevania SOTN. I tried playing that once, but it was super confusing. The castle was ridiculously huge with tons of branching paths right off the bat and there was no indication of where to go or what to do. I like the Metroid games, but they at least start you off easy and slowly work up to knowing your way around the whole world. It feels like SOTN throws you right into the deep end.

But anyway, are there any other good 2D games on the PS1? I've heard of Alundra, pic related. I've also heard of Oddworld: Abe's Odysee. Are either of those worth playing? And recommend other good 2D PS1 games.

Oh, and no turn-based JRPG grindfests please.

thought pic was Alundra on PS1.
Speaking of, at the time I quit during some weird spirit puzzle. Didn't get back to it and finish the game for about 10 years.
