No, this is how it went... I got this game in 1996, but I'm ESL and back then I couldn't really read any english, I just went around exploring the game blind, I think I managed to beat 3 or 4 dungeons before I got stuck and didn't know where to go.
Then, around 2005, I just started a new file over, and completed this game for the first time, but my childhood file was left incomplete.
Then, some years ago, I decided to resume that original childhood file, and beat the game, but I was still missing 2 pieces of heart.
Now, last month I decided to start a third file from scratch to experience the whole adventure again, I completed all the dungeons, and the last couple days I spent exploring the island inch by inch in order to find the remaining 2 pieces I was missing. Since it seemed like I had exhausted all the exploration, I resorted to read up a guide online, and found out the 2 heart pieces I was missing were rather cryptic to find. Turns out, they were also the same 2 pieces I was missing from my original childhood file. So I went and got all heart pieces in both my new, and my original old file.
I actually just beat the game mere minutes ago, I did it twice, once in my new file, and once again in my old file. I noticed the secret directions for the maze inside the wind fish's egg actually changes from file to file. Also, for some reason the credits text on the ending started glitching on my new file, but not on my old file. I'll beat the game again tomorrow on my new file and see if it glitches again.
I also deleted my 2005 file, since I was missing more than those 2 heart pieces, and I was also missing one of the upgrades, would rather leave that empty file for a future playthrough.

>Link's Awakening was my first Zelda
>I never played any other 2D Zelda game except for Four Swords a bit
I feel I was lucky that I started with pretty much the best one in the series.
Although I know I should play ALTTP at some point. I never wanted to emulate it because I thought I'd play it in real hardware, but I never got the cart. Same thing with Super Metroid.
At the very least, I can say that I'm 30 and I can still play those games for the first time.
