Anyone remember this beaut'?

I remember it was my turn to pick the game we rented for the weekend, and my older brother was fuming that I picked this. Don't even know if it was truly shit, all that sticks with me is my brother hating it.

Varied and interesting levels/mechanics, only bad things are that it's too short, and has no save feature.

Skull Monkeys

I made it to the very last level, /vr/, the very last level. And that's when I caved and used the 99 lives cheat. I just couldn't do that last part. Those fucking disappearing platforms. This was one of the most heart-attack inducing, unforgiving platformers I've ever played.

That being said, I still loved it to death. The music was awesome, the bosses were weird, and the claymation was well-done. Who has beaten it, and how frustrated did you get? I laughed at the onslaught of Ynt levels, and how they just kept getting more and more horrifying.

Such a good platformer. Sadly it's getting rare, especially the PAL version.

speaking of Earthworm Jim, the creator also made Skullmonkeys, which I consider one of the best side scrolling platformers I've ever played. The graphics, both in-game and cutscenes, are claymation. It looks like a Tim Burton film on acid. The levels have lots of secret areas and fucked up enemies. The music is often described as one of the best ps1 game soundtracks ever composed, which I fully understand.

It is the sequel to The Neverhood (but we already know that game).

PROTIP: You can get the glidey bird in the first level.
