Could we please dispel this myth that Half-Life 1 is "cinematic", or whatever nonsense is spouted here? The word 'cinematic' is very dishonest and misleading, as it implies that the game purposely omits gameplay or becomes an autopilot. This couldn't be further from the truth in the case of Half-Life. The weapon selection here is fantastic. The enemy selection was groundbreaking and varied. All of the environments and levels were immensely unique, smart and interesting. The game has so much variety because it has a constant stream of new things introduced and flowing. How do possibly deny that Half-Life is a bad game? The weapons, enemies, and environments paired together are immensely good and original.
You cannot possibly suggest that the game is fatally designed because it uses cutscenes and story. That wasn't even a new thing in 1998. Lots of games had far more cutscenes and far more story long before this did, even in the FPS genre (Marathon in particular had a huge story, and Dark Forces was the first FPS to make a big deal of cutscenes). Even the opening build-up wasn't exactly new. Don't tell me that most JRPGs don't do that, or countless other games.
Half-Life has environments that look more realistic and intricate, as opposed to generic key mazes. So what? Half-Life has more competent AI, details, and set-pieces. So what? Why do people imply these are bad? Don't they not realize that this is expanding the context and consequences? Why do you want every game to be a limited arcade style? Are you autistic?

In short, when people say "Half-Life is cinematic", they actually mean "Half-Life doesn't have non-descript levels, like I prefer" .

>The last pick up was the gauss rifle. The gun required absolutely no skill. It was basically an instagib rifle with huge amounts of bullet magnetism. I would compare it to the golden gun in destiny (I don't recommend playing destiny). I don't remember how many shots it had. The alt fire let you see enemies through walls. If 2 people were close enough one shot would kill both of them.

Reminds me slightly of Gauss gun in Half-Life. It can shoot through walls, the beam could bounce off walls, multi kill enemies, shooting it while in air would propel the player forward so you could easily fly through the map or climb heights.
