There is a hidden dagger in the viking's hideout that can cast lightning. Have your warrior or Thief equip it, target all enemies, win. I think by that point in the game there is at least one other item that can be used as an item to cast a damage spell.
There is also a fire staff in the Gnome's house where you find passage to the viking cove that casts fire spell that can be used by any mage white red or black. These two items should be more than enough to get you through the short easy dungeon where you are little without the hassle of having to switch classes. You probably have at least one Red or White mage in your party. Right? Now he and a Thief (or Warrior or Freelancer) can take out every encounter you meet along the way with infinite spell charges.
