It really depends on what youre looking for.
2 is the most similar but has some radically different stylistic choices that can be offputting. Arena design is also altered, and that can really offputting.
Next Encounter is more akin to an arcade shooter, and my favorite game after TSE. However, gameplay wise its the biggest departure.
Im honestly not a fan of 3 at all, and have barely touched it since it's release.

To add to this; 3 was created using assets from not only a scrapped COD clone, but also Croteam's pitch for a Doom4. Two of the new enemies in 3 are literally just a mancubus, and a baron/hellknight.

If you're looking for more of the same I'd reccomend trying out some mods for the Encounters/Revolution, or 2 if you dont want to play mods.

Im still in the middle of my Sam4 playthrough (around 2/3 in), and I'm enjoying it more than 3. Why do you rate it that highly?
