What did they mean by this?

Who else played Mystic Quest back in the day? It was designed as 'babby's first RPG', and was just that for me, at the age of 7. I remember thinking at the time it was complex as fuck, but also not very difficult. I'm sure that means if I came back to it now, 20+ years later, it would be a simple piece of shit.

Thoughts on this game?

Much like FF:MQ, Quest64 can be considered one of "baby's first RPGs" kind of game. Once you got Water to level 7 for healing and I forget the level for Earth for Magic Barrier (24 maybe?), the game became quite a joke. The combat mechanic was novel and actually allowed for you to dodge most attacks, magical or otherwise if you were fast and good enough. Compared to most other RPGs at the time where it would just be based on an agility stat if you got hit or not, the idea was something fairly unique to an RPG. It is not a terrible game and as pointed out above, it is one of the few RPGs on the N64, compared to the abundance of them on the SNES. Unfortunately, the plot did mostly blow and about the only interesting character as also mentioned above was Shannon. I wouldn't mind a sequel at all, but it would have to address and overcome the shortfalls of the original.

Seconded. Despite being designed as baby's first JRPG for western audiences, I actually didn't play it until after I had already played Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and even SMRPG. I still enjoyed it even being so easy. Also has a very good soundtrack.

I don't know what it is, but I have beaten it at least 10 times in the past 15 years. Maybe the charm is in its simplicity.
