I have 132 IQ and MGS2 is my favorite game. I love how hating it was the thing to do, until eventually it became the "smart guy" thing to put it on a pedestal, until a couple years ago, where saying it's actually mundane and pretentious and everything it says was obvious the whole time has become the "smart guy" template thing to do.

the fact that OPs post can even be considered a "controversial" opinion means that all is already lost.

Here is a controversial idea: merge 5th and 6th gens, and throw the Wii and the handhelds up the the 3DS Vita into that category. Every other console past that point can also be considered a single generation. If you take a long view from a truly historical perspective, this new grouping is better conceptually. As if generation alpha and beyond will really give a shit about the differences.
