>I just remember getting annoyed by 4 for constantly giving you an objective
Which was the fix the series needed. At least having natural seeming event triggers that actually respond when you interact with them.

Also being one of the most gorgeous games of its era doesn't hurt either.

It is also very comfy at points, especially if you enjoy fishing and stuff like that. But it hits some great melancholy points as well. I think you will like it.

I also second Legend of Mana from this list.

Personally it's my favorite RPG on the system. But it's also the last RPG on PS I finished and one of the last overall.

I played RPGs a lot in the NES and SNES days and then loads on PSX but started buring out on them and there were many I started and eventually dropped.

BoFIV has some slow points in the middle, but it's a build that really pays off in my opinion. The story, characters especially the parts where you play as the "antagonist" are all top notch. I've played and enjoyed the other games you mentioned, of them FFIX and Chrono Cross are close with Legend of Mana being great in some regards and very disappointing in others. I like BoFIV more than all of them though.

It's only like one loud guy who thinks 3 is amazing. Then there's another who's crazy about 2, but that's all Katt. Outside if this board 4 is almost universally seen as the pinnacle of the series by a long shot.
