Oracle of Seasons pulled off the gimmick extremely well

Tell me why these are held in such high regard. I beat Twilight Princess and am now jaded on 3D Zelda. Is it worth downloading a emulator and finding the ROM to play these?

>great graphics, perfect art direction
>great music
>great story
>simplistic but intuitive controls
>memorable boss battles with creative gimmicks
>seasons/ages mechanic is unique and refreshing
>great combat with plenty of variety thanks to dozens of useful rings and combat-oriented items
>speaking of rings... 64 in total, most of which have specific uses and actually give you some choice over your playstyle and the way you approach combat/puzzles
>fun and relaxing, but still one of the more challenging 2D games
>exploration and sidequests reward you with tangible items like rings, potions, seeds, nuts and upgrades rather than useless rupees like every other game in the series
>shops aren't fucking pointless and actually sell things that are difficult to find in the environment
>lots of sidequests, minigames, secrets and additional content
>games can be linked together for increased replayability, content and pseduo-multiplayer

Oracle of Seasons and Ages collectively are the best 2D Zelda game ever made.

Why were Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons only playable on GBC? Was there a reason the games couldn't work on original game boy, or did they just want to sell more GBCs?

So Ive played plenty of zelda over the past 30 years, but i never played these two games. i just completed them both and they were really great.

i played ages first and then seasons and did the majority of the important "linked" secrets.

I think I enjoyed seasons a little more, but who knows how i would feel if i had played them in reverse order.

The story is classic Zelda (you know, kingdom in peril, damsels, Ganon etc) and as such is nowhere near as memorable as Link's Awakening. Music is great (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGyPovhzKMs, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0EumkAeEAo)) but I think Link's Awakening is also better in that regard, too. The gameplay is a major improvement in all regards though, you get amazing items, overworld exploration is great with seasons and time travelling, and you can equip rings for both wacky stuff, combat enhancements or self-imposed challenges. They have tons of content,

You don't need to use the link cable and you don't need to own both. When you beat a game you get a password to continue the adventure in the other game. Since they came out there's been a password generator program online that you can use to create a password that'll let you get the true ending in a single game. But I'd definitely recommend playing both, combined (as they should be) they're the longest, fullest and best Zelda games IMO.

Why do these two games give such different feels from the other Zelda games, I recently finished them again and quite frankly I despise the Zelda but love the shit out of these two games and Link's Awakening.

I know they're made by Capcom and that's probably why they feel a lot more mature and harder than the Nintendo made ones, but goddamn this doesn't even feel like a Zelda and that's probably why it's so good.

I've never played a handheld Zelda. Where should I start? Quality wise, I mean. I don't care about the convoluted chronology.
