The over-whelming majority of people on /vr/ are developmentally stunted manchildren still clinging to children's toys, and children's behavior, only interested in retro games to play what they played as children, instead of being interested in the history, development, origins, or just plain fun of older games.

Thus, whenever you challenge them or even faintly give the aura of mockery, they flip the switch into defensive-mode, and attack using said developmentally-stunted child-like behavior.
