back then it was heavily criticised for the 2D graphics which, according to some major review, were "almost identical to the first game" - absolute bullshit imho.

Especially the explosions were never as pretty as in GTA 2 again. Just look at those screen-filling car bomb fireballs! The later games really lacked that.
