Crisis Force

Getsu Fūma Den. Sidescrolling action adventure with an overworld map. Think Zelda 2 except good, and mixed with TMNT1 since they reused the engine for that game.
There isn't much text but it's better to get the translation still.
Also, during the faux 3D segments, an item you can use can turn on the lights.

A really fun SHMUP from Konami. ou can change the shape of your ship at any moment (3 shapes different) to shoot different types of missiles. Also has 2 players co-op.
