First and foremost, use OpenXcom, since it fixes all the bugs in the original.

Aside from that:
* Battlescape
- Use a smoke grenade on turn 1 to cover all your soldiers
- Albeit expensive, rocket tanks are useful in early to mid missions has they provid heavy support, are great for scouting and are able to resist even Heavy Plasma shorts
- Every soldier should be a swiss army knife, and must always equipped with the following: medkit, grenade, smoke grenade, proximity grenade, high explosive, motion scanner, stun rod (and if night mission, flare).
- Always move your dudes in teams of two, one for scouting, one for shooting. Guys who spots alien should not shoot or shoot last.
- Apply real tactics and common sense. Use cover frequently or make your own with smoke, use demolitions to dislodge enemies or fabricate a line of fire. Keep your soldiers safe above all.
- Avoid engaging into night missions unless you're forced to.
- Best fire mode: auto fire. 3x20% to hit shots at 20% TUs beat snap and aimed shot chances every time.

*Geoscape
- Your first base should be in a central landmass to make sure no detected UFOs will go over the ocean too often.
- Research order for 1st and second month: laser weapons, laser pistol, laser rifle, medikit, alien alloys, personal armor. motion scanner
- Craft equip: equip all your interception craft with avalanche missiles until you develop the plasma cannon.
- Base build: reorganize your early base so all hangars are on the top and their only connection to the rest of the base is the access lift. Alien only spawn on hangars and lift when attacking your. This creates a bottleneck that makes your base impervious.

*Advanced game tips
- Engaging Ethereals: DON'T. Or at least not until you have a team of trained psykers.
- Chryssalid terror missions: if chryssalids/zombies get out of control, equip your dudes with laser rifles, enter a house with two floors. shoot the stairs. Chryssalids are unable to climb.

I'm currently playing open x-com on ironman superhuman using only man made equipment, with the exception of the avenger for the final mission. I was wondering if the psi amp would be considered alien technology.

Love me some X-Com but i've been burned out on it lately. Eagerly waiting for the OpenXcom version of TFTD.
