This board definitely looks at CRTs through far too-rose colored glasses. Growing up going through a new CRT practically every other year was a nonstop struggle to get one that was "even better" than the one before it, sharper picture, better color tone, flatter tube, less distortion, brighter picture, more settings, etc etc etc. The CRTs we had were NEVER good enough- we were constantly desperate for tricks to make it look better, slamming that degauss button, scanning the sales ads for the next hot model to offer a marginally, infinitesimally improved picture. So it wasn't with much regret at all when 98% of society moved on to LCDs when the technology proved to be cheaper, smaller, more manageable, and above all featured a sharpness CRTs could only dream about. Yeah, we lost a bit of that rustic analog "charm" they had for old video games, but it's not as if people were really enjoying it while they had it. So the utter cultishness behind them and the insistence that there is only one specific Platonic "right way" to play these old games, when the vast majority of time the vast majority of people were using televisions that looked like goddamn dogwater, is ridiculous.
Play shit however you want, it's fine, but there's nothing special about trying to return to a time we were all trying to escape from.
