What's going on with the Firestorm in Hexen? It just feels like a weaker and more expensive Hammer of Retribution. Even waiting for the main flame to deal as much damage as possible, it still feels a lot weaker, especially against flying enemies.

In Hexen is the Firestorm for the cleric just bad? It seems like a weaker and more expensive hammer of retribution with the only mild upside being that the projectile is faster. It does barely any damage against flying targets or against slaughtaurs (which collectively make up about 2/3rds of the enemies in the game), so what is it meant to do? The only enemy I want to kill with it are chaos serpents and wendigos, but neither are particularly common and go down pretty quickly against the serpent staff. Are there some secret uses for the firestorm? Or is it just the worst green mana weapon in the game despite looking so cool?
