A friend gave me a copy of Super Mario 64 for keepsies. When he wasn't looking, I shoved it back in his bag before he went home. So long 'ye Bowser.

i didn't fuck with steam until many many many years down the road, i'm talking i probably first tried it out and began using it in 2012, or 2013

what surprised the fuck outta me was registering Half-Life gave me all the expansion packs and such, and i'm 99% certain it was just a standard old HL version and not one that came with them or anything, i've played it off the disc countless times but when i registered the key on steam it just threw the whole shebang at me, and by that time Steam wasn't total dog shit so it instantly won me over just like that. getting in on deals back then was really fun, not sure it's the same now but getting Portal 2 and Max Payne 3 for like $5 was stellar and made me happy.

but that was then and way way before then i was holding out, i had HL2 discs and it wanted Steam and i wasn't having it so i did research and i ripped Steam right out of my install for HL2 and played it Steamless, and i liked the game so much i burnt my Steamless version to a DVD and gave it to a friend, and he enjoyed it so much he played through it twice back to back even.
good times, good times.

i thought that was a genius move, the introduction of a slew of new enemy varieties added the spice the later half of the game needed, not only did i not mind going back through old levels backwards, it added to the immersion and atmosphere

their Arena is also notable for being the CD-Rom and not the Floppy Disc Steam offers, it has more patches/bug fixes, the removed DRM at the end of the intro dungeon, and the FMVs

you owe it to yourself to play that one on GOG and not the one on Steam!!

>I can tell that they're gonna do the "dude who starts off as your friend later betrays you" shit.
but you can totally double-triple-quadruple cross him back if you want to, being all Sith and shit, and you'd be a fool not too if your picking up on this already!

it's OK, it's not great but it's playable, has its moments
one that stands out to me is teaming up with a dude to stay alive and traveling together and i came to the conclusion we were both safe because he had opportunities to jump my shit, and we run into another guy who demands we all take a blood test,

so i think sure, i aint got nothing to hide and i know the dude i am traveling with is clean - my companion turns into the thing and attacks me and new guy right then and there scaring the SHIT out of me wtf, but after we finish teaming up to kill my old companion we nod and join forces and carry on from there.

it'sa game alright, a The Thing™ game..

the multiplayer was the only thing worthwhile, i hope they remaster 64 again BUT they add on Assualt's multplayer with online functionality!

i miss that era where devs would just put in scenes from movies into their games in lieu of making cutscenes, it's 'lazy' but it's peak soul
