Play Frontier first, Minstrel Song is harder and less forgiving, you'll need to at least know most of the base mechanics of SaGa to play MinSon or you'll screw up your entire game session after literally 20 minutes.

I actually didn't like the Reel system out of battles, using like, 30 reels just to open a chest was madness at the beginning of the game, if you know how to play though, Reels are insignificant.

What I didn't like was that there was no classic map exploration anymore, the board game interface in the map really killed me.
All the rest was great, though you really need to know your shit.
