4 and 5 are the best ones. Hands down. Best gameplay, settings and stories.

That said I think 1 has a certain appeal that 2 and 3 lack that people don't give enough credit for. It's very simple, linear and a bit dry but that works kind of in it's favor, because instead of focusing on telling a narrative it was more about the adventure in between the start and end.

What? The dragons in IV are so much cooler then III, they're incredibly unique and not just "giant lizard with wings".

4 has without question the best dragons Ive seen in any media.

Probably Breath of Fire IV. I loved the hell out of the Chinese/Korean mythological setting in general and that's on top of what have to be some of the most amazing dragon designs I think Ive seen in, well, in anything really.

If you'd paid attention they flat out admitted that they where never GODS in the first place. Humans summoned them without their consent in the first place and just decided to worship them because they where much stronger than normal mortal creatures
