Post-release patches and updates were ALWAYS a thing. Even hardware was being constantly updated. You just had to buy a new fuckign megadrive or Playstation to get those fucking updates. And for games you had to either buy demo discs to patch PC games or outright buy newer prints of console games to get 1.1 versions.
Son, automatic free updates for games and especially console firmware is a fucking godsend.
