That day when you bought the game and you took out every CD you could find and neatly categorize the ones you can't unlock yet for later.

I don't think I've seen this game discussed here (it probably has), but I really enjoyed it when it was new.

Pros:
+ fight mechanics are more interesting than the main franchise
+ collecting cards is fun
+ despite link mechanics, no second version, all cards can be obtained single player

Cons:
- somewhat aimless beyond aforementioned collecting
- can only have as many decks as you have deck boxes, which are rare items (3 in total, found in the middle and end of the game respectively)
- mechanics are sometimes unintuitive (mochi can hide behind another monster to dodge damage, but then that monster can dodge and neither takes damage..?)
- every fight is a gamble for cards. not a problem of itself, but if you lose your first match, they take the ante out of your deck and as you have no cards to replace them creates an unwinnable scenario where you get stuck on the deckbuilding screen.

Feel free to take about the rest of the monster rancher series as well I guess

Goof Troop was great, I just wish it was longer and a bit more challenging but it was one of my go to co-op games as a kid whenever I had friends over.
