yeah, but they had to be thinking about it during production because I'm pretty sure I saw a mockup LD cover in the art book.

I would say good comb filter is a must for any composite signal. some of the players even have comb filters built-in, you can even adjust the signal separation.

I use my video processor so a comb-filter doesn't even really begin to describe the quality I can output. (I can basically display near reference quality in real-time without postprocessing)

what you're referring to is called "laser rot" only some discs suffer from it because of cheap manufacturing

CDs and DVDs are actually rotting too. the Library of Congress has found that most of their CD media is becoming unplayable due to age.

digital archival is still a very big problem right now. the best things we have so far might be M-disk and high-quality SSDs

but even that's touch and go right now ( still way safer than CDs or DVDs)
