It's super fucking weird to talk about this now that I actually think about it. From one side, I definitely like RE2 vanilla more and I think it does certain things way better, but at the same time the remake's reimagining of Mr. X and how he works is fucking genius. They also recaptured that RE feeling for the entirety of the police station segment and some part of the lab/sewers.

What boggles my mind is that they've taken a lot from the original and did it justice but at the same time completely fucked up shit that should've been easy to understand and port over - A/B scenarios being almost the exact same is the clearest example of this. It's like they ran out of development time, because each run has its differences in terms of plot and some basic starting/middle locations that you access, but it's nowhere near enough since the original did more with it and didn't have boss fights which made no sense narratively. Leon and Claire also met up more, and the locations like the lab were way bigger and had more going on. If gaming journalism wasn't a fucking tragedy maybe someone could've asked the developers about this, but they're probably too afraid they wouldn't get the paycheck if they didn't give everything 10/10s.

I kinda miss being able to examine the enviornment and get some description of what I was looking at, or maybe a hidden item. Feels like it was a part of RE's identity for a long time, even though it doesn't necessarily sound important. I didn't like that there wasn't much strategy to fighting lickers/being able to stun some enemies, or how weak they've made the magnum when it was usually the "fuck you" weapon in the classic games. Not sure if I like the new plant enemies, they were super fucking weak and more of an annoyance than a scary enemy.

So yeah, tl;dr: It's too bad they didn't work on the new game a bit more, because we could've had a tenner as opposed to a really solid 7/8. Slightly off the mark as it is now.
