I played through the Pixel Remasters and found them to be the definitive versions of each game. I have yet to play through VI so I cannot judge. And II had some fucking bullshit with the Coeurls being totally OP with paralysis which I do not recall from Dawn of Souls. However, aside from those small nigglings and the meh decision to standardize menus and items across all of them, they were absolutely wonderful. They looked good and the soundtracks were incredible. I feel like the complaints about them are incredibly inane and that these are the best releases SE has had since TWEWY

No anon, what part of my post gave you that idea whatsoever? In Breath of Fire IV your dragon upgrades are directly tied to your score in minigames such as the sandflier course, etc. What in the world did you think I was saying? The genes in III were objectively superior to IV and a highlight of the game, I've never heard of a single person saying otherwise.

Such a comfy game and my favorite BoF. Tactics Ogre is also my favorite SRPG. And I really liked the look of Saga Frontier 2, got very far in that one. The painted backgrounds reminded me a lot of Legend of Mana. Crazy seeing all these games in one post.

I think you're taking it in the wrong context.

Most say it to defend older games. That phrase is mostly only said in regards to when someone says they won't play an older game as it "looks too old". This isn't much of a thing here, especially /vr/, but it is a common enough reason people say they don't like older games. It isn't meant to say "it's okay if a game looks like shit" but instead mean "just because a game doesn't look very modern it still is worth playing".

You know I think those who discredit story entirely think of them in more modern terms. Is it a problem when the story overshadows gameplay? Yeah, definitely. But I think a good story can really add to a game, it can encourage further playing. A game doesn't need it to be great, but it helps.
