I love the presentation and art, but could the gameplay be any more boring?

I spent half an hour walking around hitting maggots with a bone only to get completely fucked over by a boss after losing my healing items. Worst of all, I lost all the progress of that boring trudge to get their in the first place, meaning that I would need to go through all of that again.

God forbid I subject someone else to this through the multiplayer mode.

If the gameplay doesn't get any better after this, I'm considering this deal broken.

I specifically re-played this great game in order to get the bazooka(15+ years later) and fucked it up again... How did I manage to do it twice? I somehow, again, cleared the game without stepping foot in Ebon Keep, besides its sewers and castle... fuck me.

Hey /vr/, I've been trying to play catch up with a couple of games that I've never played before in my life and picture related is one of them. I've heard a ton of mix reception to this game, but, I decided to give it a try and I'm just having trouble really getting into it. I really want to get into the world and the quirky characters in it, but the gameplay itself is just a drag for me. I've never really played anything in the 'mana' series. I believe this is part of it isn't it, forgive me if I'm wrong, but, I just can't sink my teeth into it. Is there anything I can do to make it more enjoyable, or at least less of a drag? I'm only a few hours in and I just feel like putting it down already.

A lot of people hate this game. As if it were at fault for Secret of Mana's sequel.

It's not a fantastic game, but I always thought it didn't deserve the vitriol.

I think Secret of Evermore was made as a bone to throw to american gamers instead of giving us a true sequel to Secret of Mana. I think it would have been better to get SD3 instead of SoE.
