the biggest problem is you'll most likely play it after EOB2, and it becomes a huge letdown.

the game is somewhat choppy regardless how high you set cycles in dosbox (i heard installing 0.73 helps, but i can't really be bothered), and considering the overall smoothness is what made EOB1+2 so great (and other dungeon master clones), that the lack of it already makes the game a lot worse to play.

the choppiness also applies to sounds, which is already somewhat weird, EOB1/2 has this really clear footsteps and so and EOB3 sounds feel like they have worse quality for some reasons (and choppy sounds don't help it either).

you could criticize the game for being rather short, but honestly, EOB2 and especially 1 aren't really that long either. the issue is that in EOB3 you have this huge outdoor areas that are almost empty. So you're glad there's a dungeon right next to your starting location and you'll get your dungeon fix right? not really, there isn't much loot except tons of pretty hard monsters and when you're finally finished, you get little more than rod of restoration. What for you ask? being able to restore levels must sure be useful right? wrong, only place with level draining monsters are the catacombs.

you also can't rest until you clear most of the dungeon and while i didn't have that much trouble with monsters with my overleveled and overequipped chars from previous EOB, i can imagine the pain doing it without that, just to find out it wasn't worth it since you'll get better equip just lying in the forest for some reason.

i just reached end of the outdoor areas and there are supposed to be 3 dungeons before end of the game. i don't know how long are they, but even if it picks up, it's definitely late.

overall, there's just little reason to play the game unless for 'research' purposes. if you want outdoor dungeon crawler, just play ravenloft instead and if you want a 'classic' one, there are just plain better options even after DM/EOB1/2/LOL
