I suspect that these beta screens hint at a much larger game that didn't make it into the final cut. These environments may be compressed and encrypted into the disc itself? Regardless, it's clear that the conceptual product was larger than the finished project.

Again, by the time III rolls around and you do all the opening stuff again, it feels tedious. Where are the new characters? The amount of people you interact with in the story is very little. IV at least gives you the perspective of your friends back on the mainland, which is interesting.
