Adapters can give you the benefit of your favorite controllers on the Dreamcast for a low price.

It almost did but the game library and the memories playing alongside friends on those games overcame the deficiency. I do wish the stock DC controllers were better.

Is there a way to order from Brook without signing up for some account?

While I still prefer the Saturn pad on the overall, it is just attempting parries where those Ascii Pad FT shines because I think its loose and airy feeling d-pad is snappy enough to attempt those frame-specific actions. I would imagine it could be alright with shooting games, but the standard Dreamcast d-pad and other more preferred controllers are sufficient for me in that type of game.

Consoles, sometimes adapters.

>>6128989
These days, the adapter is the better option as there are so many new Sega Saturn pads released.

Just saying, some FPS games on Dreamcast like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 were played with mouse & keyboard.

I got those two games for the Dreamcast from local stores, because at that time, Halo was the thing, so the old Dreamcast FPS games were worthless and cheap. The keyboard was a gift from my friends because they were putting up with my messages input from the Dreamcast D-pad. I don't remember the circumstances of getting the mouse though, so it may have been eBay or some other online store.

However, I will admit I didn't play UT nor Q3 on the Dreamcast because I primarily played them on PC, which was mouse & keyboard controls. I didn't get used to dual analog FPS aiming until I spent a night playing Gears of War co-op. I think it was trying to figure out if I preferred the modern "standard" or inverse for camera controls, because Zelda 64 and a lot of flight games got me used to pulling pack to go "up". It took a bit but I can use the dual analogs decently for FPS, but I still prefer mouse & keyboard because it was what I was used to first from PC.

I like the Ascii Pad FT. They are shaped like Sega Saturn controllers, better that the XYZ buttons are the same size as the ABC buttons, but worse that the d-pad is not as nice compared to a real Sega-Saturn controller. However, the downside to the Ascii Pad FT is that it counds like an Arcade stick (instead of L&R analog triggers you have C&Z buttons and no analog stick).

If you want something better there are adapters for the Dreamcast.

Sadly, I share your sentiment about the default stock Dreamcast controller too. So you just got to find a way.

Isn't it obvious, I have not sold anything because Gamestop would have offered at best $5 in-store credit. I can milk $5 worth of personal fun in the games, not sure others are as easily amused as I am.

This

I've got 3 of the Ascii Pad FT, but one is so overused that the rubber/silicone membrane of a direction tore off. Given that it is an 3rd party controller with not many around, it is not cost effective for anyone to make replacement contact pads as they do with SNES, NES, and Saturn ones. So I will have to live with having one "dead" Ascii Pad FT, since buying another is out of the question with the high prices of $45USD and up.

Thus the adapter route is probably the best.

It seems so to me. As I enjoyed playing on all platforms from the start and there were no "schoolyard arguments" as it was made out to be of console wars in my time. I blame the nature of a few on /vr/ which I believe just loves to instigate the hatred against Saturn and the only logic seems to stem from "it sold less and may be technically inferior to the competition in most aspects" which never deterred me from enjoying NES, PCE, Genesis, NeoGeo, SNES, N64, etc. so it all comes from a place of hatred IMO.

I am in agreement with >>3539729
and >>3539731 that adapters/converters are the best thing for the Dreamcast. Since Sega Saturn controllers are best for my hands as this thread already demonstrated. For fighting games, the Ascii Fighting Pad FT (seen on the lower center of >>3539092 pic) is nice as well and features the one thing I wished for on the default Sega Saturn controllers: equal sized XYZ buttons to ABC. There was the Sega Arcade stick which was released by Agetec in the US, but it requires some modding if you want actual arcade parts in it. I really want a Treamcast for its controllers, since they look like they would be good for me.
