It should be noted that piracy is going up, and corporate greed is unironically 100% the reason. Movies and tv shows is the perfect example of this and I can explain it with an anecdote. When EVERYTHING was on Netflix and they weren't charging much for it, yeah I didn't actually have an issue with paying a monthly subscription for the access and stopped pirating movies. When every goddamn studio pulled their shit off of the service and demanded you subscribe to their exclusive shit so you would have to juggle a dozen services to watch what you want, hell yeah I went back to torrenting. And so did a lot of other people for the exact same reason.
The fat man keeps being proven right, pic related.

Like I said, people were ok with paying 15 a month when it meant having access to everything under the sun. But when every single company wants you to pay 15 a month for their stuff exclusively, people will turn to piracy. Pic related

This board has really gone to shit once the mods allowed 6th gen. So much misinformation and so many hot takes.

Yes sweetie, Steam bad, physical good. Because you weren't fucking alive in the early 2000's and never saw SecuROM, SafeDisc and StarForce. The drivers used for those DRM systems were so invasive Microsoft outright blacklisted them on Windows 8 and later.

Why the fuck do you think literally everyone switched over to Steam? Because you didn't have to fuck with CD keys and discs anymore, and all patches and updates have been automated.

pre-Steam:
>drive to store,
>buy game (but only if they actually have it in stock)
>drive back home
>insert disc in PC
>install game
>go to publisher website and check for updates (or use aggregator websites like GamersHell or FilePlanet)
>have to keep disc in drive every time you play the game
>OR activate online via a CD key
>you could also download a no-cd crack online but many of those had viruses and AV software back then wasn't anywhere as powerful at detecting them
>finally play the game

>Steam era
>open Steam client
>buy game
>press install
>play the game
