Love obscure /vr/, let's go. Here's three sweet (and inexpensive!) NES games.

Gyruss - Galaga and Tempest had a baby. Kickass arcade style cylindrical shooter with some nice music and fun gameplay. Recommended for shooter fans.

Gumshoe - One of the more inventive lightgun games, you play as a detective who must be shot at in order to jump. You can shoot obstacles to earn points and power ups. Only flaw with this game is the difficulty. There are 6 stages and you get 3 lives with no continues. 1HKO unless you get a power up. Only made it I think to level 3 once.

Willow - Haven't played this one as I picked it up yesterday, put it's a really cool looking RPG. It has gorgeous graphics and looks like a lot of fun.

I'm a big fan of obscure games. Two that come to mind are the NES games Gyruss and Gumshoe. I never hear either discussed ever and they deserve better. Gumshoe was super intriguing as it used the Zapper, creating a light-gun platformer. Shooting your character jumps, and you'll have to shoot things coming at him as a well as shoot balloons for more ammo. Unfortunately no continues, so 3 deaths and you're done which is really sad because there's 6 levels and I can barely get past level 2.

Gyruss combines Galaga and Tempest. You guide a spaceship in a conic formation, blasting enemies down the line. Super arcadey and a fantastic pick-up-and-play NES title.

If you're into shooters like space harrier, I'm sure you'd love Panzer Dragoon and the like. You might wanna check out Afterburner II, Omega Boost, and Rez. Omega Boost is a really good shooter in the vein of space harrier; rez is a super fun trippy shooter that plays very similarly. It was released in the states on non /vr/ consoles (PS2, XBLA Remake, PS4 remake coming soon), but if you live in europe or wanna burn/import the original dreamcast one, you could do that too.

If you really wanna stretch it, Gyruss on NES is a fun cross over of Galaga and Tempest 2000, where you circle the screen shooting enemies in a cylinder formation.
