I think it is just all the games the TurboDuo possess which appeal to me that puts it as one of my top 5 most favorite consoles. I don't mind the gameplay being basic since I can admit I'm not too smart. Like most things, it follows a 90% shit to 10% stuff ratio, with only maybe the NeoGeo and NeoGeo Pocket having slightly better ratios. However, I still think the 3DO is a top 25 console (not including portables, variations/revisions, and PC), but just did not have as expansive of a library which appeals to me. The majority of what I like of the 3DO is from Japan, since those were games I found randomly there.

The TurboDuo was a pretty good deal since it was bundled with all those high quality games, a magazine, and a coupon book for $5USD off each of your next 10 games for the system. I don't think any slim revision got that great a bundle since. Of those three random card games, I lucked out getting Ninja Spirit.

The TurboDuo came in a bundle that had Ys books 1&2, Gate of Thunder, Bonk 1&2, Bomberman, and Ninja Spirit. It even included 10 coupons for $5USD off any TurboGrafx games and a couple issues of TurboForce. That was an incredible bundle of some of the top games for the system, but not many were interested at the time. I got it plus a few other great titles and additional systems in a bundle when I finally had the funds.

I care. It is one of my top 5 consoles of all time. I still enjoy the nostalgic music and sounds from the many great games. Lots of fun and impressive visuals. It was like the NeoGeo of the 8-bit world.

I think it was better than good. I remember seeing all the articles on Ys, and the large portraits and animated cutscenes impressed me. The sound is very pleasing to me and it was able to display more colors and larger sprites than the Genesis. The library is massive, and I keep finding great titles on it. Definitely one of my favorite consoles, top 25.

On Black Friday, I got the Turbo Everdrive. I have not used it yet, but I want to pair it with a PC-Engine I have no attachment to, as someone said to not remove the Everdrive and leave it in the system even when powered off to not do damage to the card slot. I still have some actual TurboChips and was able to afford only one Everdrive so I would be constantly switching the Everdrive and TurboChips between my systems. As a bonus, I hear the DBgrafxBooster TTP on a PC-Engine (or CoreGrafx/SuperGrafx) outputs better RGB than my Duo, so what is a fair price for one of those NEC consoles?

I just want to play some Japanese HuCards, and those many games I cannot afford.

>What are your favorite games?
Ys 1-4, Gate/Winds of Thunder, Cotton, Spriggan, Soldier Blade, Nectaris (Military Madness), Ninja Spirit, Alien/Devil Crush, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Bomberman '94, Splatterhouse ... like all systems, I can easily find games I love.

>Hidden gems?
Bomberman is on the disc with Gate of Thunder, Adventures of Bonk, and Bonk's Revenge ... you just enter a code, and surprise you got a bonus game! Was hidden then revealed to me via a magazine, and I was pleasantly surprised to get another game.

>Recent pickups?
I just got the Turbo Everdrive in a couple days ago from the Black Friday discounts krikzz had. I think someone called smoked or something had a organized set, but I am just tempted to throw on all the HuCard games I got in a torrent back in the early 2000s. Would love to know what are some good homebrews or fan translations to download onto it.

>Replaced caps?
Yeah, it has to be done by this point with a Duo.

I love Soldier Blade for regular Hu-Card. Sadly, I cannot afford it for my Duo (it is recapped now despite image title). I have to settle for it on PSP and PS3, but it is amazing not just graphically but audio-wise as well coming from just the base PC-Engine.

I always felt the cover to Winds of Thunder was done by Masamune Shirow, back when he used actual paints instead of digital Photoshop work. I got the vibe that it was not quite like Gate of Thunder, but still amazing as its own thing.

What is Rayxanber 2?

I still want that game even when it is "inferior" just can't afford it.

I finally decided I had saved up a bit to pay someone to replace the capacitors of my old TurboDuo, and I am pretty excited to play these games again!

I didn't even know there was a non-shiny version. I had only thought it came shiny. Yet it does make sense, since the earlier WD titles on TG16 (Cosmic Fantasy 2 and Exile pictured) were just standard, so I guess it may be true regarding a first run. I never really looked into it. Maybe someone else would be more knowledgeable about the matter.

That does throw a bit of a dent in my thought that "WD releases can be more costly to replicate" if one does choose to fake up a non-shiny version. Still, I like it when they have that embossing and foil, harder to emulate ^^.

The PC Engine, based around my experiences, was more popular with the kids in Japan than even the Famicom despite what is now accepted that the Famicom was so much a success in terms of units sold. Back then, the PC Engine had the graphical chops to outdo their immediate competitors. It was a consolized form of a lot of PC-88 titles, had many titles based around the animations on TV, and it was a very space considerate machine.

You may not want one if you are not into shooting games, manga/anime, card/party/board/gambling games, visual novels which the system primarily has. There are also many RPGs, more akin to the older more obtuse designs of old RPGs like that of Dragon Quest, Wizardry, and early Ultima games. You may want one if you don't mind 8-bit games of those aforementioned types.

It is good because it is an overpowered 8-bit system, much like a NeoGeo is a sort of overpowered 16-bit system which got great love from their developers.

The CD-expansion can have up to 75% of the best titles the PC-Engine line of systems have to offer. There are still some amazing HuCard/TurboChip only titles.

The Super CD-ROM2 expansion system is pretty uncommon to rare. It is best paired with the similarly uncommon to rare SuperGrafx, or PC-Engine LT to give those systems Super CD-ROM2 capability since that attachment has the Super System Card built in.

here are the levels of systems:
PC-Engine (base white), either CoreGrafx, PC-Engine GT, Shuttle PC-Engine = all non-SuperGrafx HuCards playable

add PC-Engine Interface Unit + CD-ROM expansion + System Card 1.0 = all (Regular) CD-ROM2 games playable in addition to above [not applicable to Shuttle nor GT as they cannot be expanded]

same as last category but with Super System Card, or just any form of a Duo (no need for a system card), or Super CD-ROM 2 attachment = all Super CD-ROM2 games playable too in addition

above but with Arcade Card (Duo if you have a Duo) = Arcade CD-ROMs playable

I have 0 soldering skills and cable making ability. Do you know anyone trustworthy/reliable and how much it costs to have the following done:

- capacitor replacement
- RGB mod with cable (JP21 spec)
- (optional) region mod for card slot
Background story:
I am fortunate my uncle is a hoarder, and never threw out anything, even with the stuff I brought over to his place and left there. So I got these back and I remember a youtube video saying that the capacitors of these machines have a tendency to leak and will need replacing. These have not been turned on for at least a decade, and I am scared to do so now. I abandoned these machines at my uncle's because they couldn't output to the XRGB2 (in RGB) back then, and I now have a framemeister as well. TurboChip games are costly now, and both systems cannot play Japanese HuCards, but that option would be nice. I know there's the Turbo Everdrive and emulation options which may cost less, but I'd really don't want to sell these away since I loved playing these specific things back in my youth. I literally flip burgers for barely over minimum wage, so it'll take a couple months to save up, but I think the mods will be worth it
