I never figured out what it was, but grinding was actually fun for me in this game. Maybe it was just how you could whap the enemy with fairies before starting, the jamming battle music, or the animations back in the day. I dunno.

I guess it's not necessary, but it does a lot more to flesh out the whole Vandal/Galm thing going on in SF3. If you can't get into StHA, I guess you can skip to Force 3, but I still think it's better to start there.
