Mostly the size really.
I wanted a handheld retro-emulation machine to play at home, like on the couch or bed, but I'm used to big smartphone screens at this point. So a Retroid (which has the iPhone 6 display if I'm not mistaken) is a bit too small for my tastes.
On the other hand, the Steam Deck is fucking huge and heavy which kinda defeats the purpose, and 800p seems ridiculous for a 7 inch screen. I was still tempted to get the OLED model at some point but at the end of the day it's a laptop with buttons and I'm 100% sure I'd spend more time installing, modding and tweaking shit rather than playing (because that's what I already do on my desktop). My PC is pretty good so the Deck would be very underpowered in comparison, but its specs are still so good it would almost feel wasted on 20 years old games alone.

The Odin 2 sits right in that sweet spot because of its decently sized screen; it's a little bigger than a Switch Lite and a little smaller than a regular Switch, and it weights roughly as much. I can grab it and put it down everywhere at any given moment, while the Deck wouldn't be as handy.
Plus the hardware is so good it lets you play everything up to 6th gen (often with 2x/4x upscale on a 1080p display) without the constant need of tinkering with the settings, but the Android OS is limiting it to emulation which basically makes my tweaking/modding instincts a non-issue.
In the end it almost flawlessly runs everything you can possibly emulate on android, and newer emulators aren't even on the horizon, so it feels like a future proof retro handheld if that makes sense.
The battery also lasts for like 20+ hours which is honestly impressive.
