It is a phenomenal game, with a great sense of weapon and enemy variety, aesthetics, and technology. People simply don't like to hear about it because the stereotypical humor is too much. I personally rank it above Duke, but Blood gives a very tough competition. I can write much more about the specific aspects that I like, if you want.

That's true. Duke does, however, say things when you pick up guns and ammo (groovy!). But not when switching.

That grenade launcher is taken from Shadow Warrior, just fyi.
Shadow Warrior really had some of the nicest gun sprites imo.
