They manipulate too easily, anyone can make fraudulent votes to make sure their choice wins out.

People here have been knocking around the idea of The Golden Boners for a long time, but there's a lot of things to consider, a lot of questions to ask ourselves. These are not rhetorical questions either, we need to discuss the answers.

>1. Do we NEED our own awards ceremony? What is the benefit of it? What could be the drawbacks?
>2. Do any of us have the energy and drive to arrange and follow through with such a ceremony, and with any remotely consistent scheduling?
>3. How exactly will outcomes be determined? By jury? By vote? How would either of those be arranged in an actually secure manner?
>4. Should we recuse ourselves for our own work? Us rewarding ourselves with an imaginary medal to pat ourselves on the back would easily look ferociously masturbatory.

Personally, I feel that there's a lot of work which just will not be reliably done because there simply isn't enough interest, so getting it off the ground to begin with seems doubtful. Like or hate the Cacowards, the writers have a lot of commitment.

I'd also be worried that this would encourage way too much circlejerking, and that it may draw in too much attention to our corner of the overall community. 50 people have replied to this thread so far, and 50 to 100 people are a pretty cozy speed for these threads, will this place be as fun if we start looking at 200+ people on the regular, many who will no doubt refuse to properly adapt? I feel that, no, it would not, and this is the one point I'd expect the most agreeance on.
It would also just be difficult to have secure votes or juries without promoting circlejerking, it'd require people here being less anonymous.

Anon pls. I get that you likely won't do it on your first try before you know the map, but once you know where everything is, what do you even have trouble with?

>Rush BFG, one-shot archvile
>Collect cell ammo near BFG room corners
>Grab SSG and RocketLauncher
>rush to the second archvile's platform so it lowers, hug it so he can't zap you
>one-shot archvile, move into caves
>Rocket archvile+boners, press button in cave
>Come out of cave, grab blue key
>Open blue door, collect soulsphere near beginning
>Make cybers infight with rabble of demons running around, and finish them off with BFG
>Press button in cybercloset, grab red key
>BFG archvile in red room, press switch
>Kill stragglers, go up the newly raised stairs to exit

The only part of this that I would foresee a newer player having trouble with here is the 2 cyberdemons at the same time, and that's if you're not comfortable doing the 2-shot-BFG dance with them.

So why is it that Decino and others prefer playing on GLBloom+ (ie just PRB+ with openGL rendering enabled) when not recording demos on non-crazy sized maps, instead of just using GZDoom?

Are the little accuracy differences compared to the compat Boom (strict) settings in GZD worth the trouble of not having access to quality of life mods. so you don't have to use the ugly PRB+ HUD to count kills/secrets in-game, like Decino has to do?

They're absolutely unconventional compared to the rest of the monsters, and completely fucking change any battle they're added in, because you have to account for their unique behaviors. The Arch-Vile especially, as he makes himself among the highest priority of your targets, as he's so fast and dangerous on his own, and also because he can undo any killing you've done nearby, killing him can be a race against time, to avoid getting fucked.

I love the challenge and complexity they add to the game, and I love their spooky aesthetics. The Arch-Vile STILL scares the shit out of me and makes me break out in sweat, he's just really effective; a dangerous monster that's really uncanny and disturbing, you just hear him laughing somewhere in the dark, and you know it's just a matter of time before you have to face him, dreading getting stuck in a bad place with him.

Oh I got the point fully, I just think it's really stupid because your idea is as new and original as oatmeal.
Doom 2016 is already implying something similar anyway with Samuel Hayden hinting that the Doomguy shouldn't interfere too much with Argent energy. Same with Olivia Pierce who tried the same thing.

Do you have a twist where the power goes beyond their control and the good guy stops them and we have to learn that racisms bad m'kay? Wow, big twist.

I've got a few good ideas but it's always nice to see what others are thinking too incase they have something better or something I haven't thought of.

Can you delete 3d sectors in game?

Eg: Player is walking over a bridge and it collapses.

I want to set up something like that, but instantly moving lifts moves the player instantly too, there's no "coyote in roadrunner" effect.

Map question.

Where have you seen caves done exceptionally well? This can include levelsets that use slopes and 3d features.
I feel they're a thing everybody has an idea on how to do but we all regress to a mean on them and I'm trying to see who does them they way we imagine in our heads.

Pain Elementals become a problem fast if you don't deal with them. Thankfully, you don't necessarily need to divert your firepower to them to keep them in check, just bully them and abort their children.

Arch-viles are *fucking terrifying* and really versatile against you, so you gotta deal with them for some peace of mind, let off the fucking tension and nerves. Being stuck in a space with no cover with a vile is horrific, being stuck somewhere in the dark with a vile you can hear but not see, but you know is walking free nearby and looking for you, that shit's beyond unbearable to me.

Arachnotrons aren't generally too bothersome in most situations, but their walking and gunning is loud and annoying so I often try to kill them soon to get some fucking peace and quiet.
