For a modern upgrade I joined the USB4VC kickstarter so I don't have to wear out my few old space invaders/alps/buckling springs keyboards and just use an affordable modern one. Unfortunately, it requires a Pi which I do not have. I hear the price of those has skyrocketed due to geopolitical reasons, and the only ones in my area are some bootleg Chinese "Orange Pi" opposed to the standard Raspberry kind. I only would dedicate it for usage in the USB4VC exclusively, so maybe is there an outlet for used old Raspberry ones? What is the fair lowest price for a compatible one that would work? I'm also considering a 2nd exclusively for Pi hole adblocking which would probably require a more powerful modern one. As a bonus, using the USB4VC would allow modern console controllers which were superior to the controller options I had for sound cards' game ports without resorting to a PicoGUS.

I have been looking for an older Pi with the 40-pin header and USB ports so I could use this. The creator says the latency is 0.5ms to 1ms depending on the generation of the Pi. How much was the pre-pandemic prices of these things? I've got about $10USD, and I figure there has to be some students who must have figured engineering was not for them and has it gathering dust. I'd like to give it a try and 0.5-1.0ms doesn't seem like a lot of latency to me.

If you are tech savvy, maybe you could fashion a single board computer to intercept inputs from an Xbox controller and output to the expected analog values the PS1 games expect. There may be some lag, even more if you need to use RetroArch but that's what the run-ahead feature is supposed to mitigate.
